Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the latest, most stylish and efficient hatchback vehicles launched in India with a hope that it would rise to the top in selling line pretty soon. On the other hand, the Renault Duster is a lightweight SUV that offers full-fledged on-roading and just more than enough off-roading capabilities in a budget.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a debutant model in the premium hatchback model in India which made its first entry in 2015. Maruti Suzuki Baleno intends to compete with the Maruti’s very own Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback, and speaking of premium hatchback models both are great value for money.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is equipped with a 1.2L VVT engine, which runs on Petrol and Octane. There’s a diesel variant in international production which isn’t available in Indian market. However, the exact displacement is 1197 cc and it has 4 cylinders. The maximum power Maruti Suzuki Baleno engine can pull off is 83bhp and the maximum torque figure is 115Nm. It’s a front-wheel drive vehicle.
On the other hand, Renault Duster ships off with a 4 cylinder in-line petrol engine for the Indian market. The engine has a displacement of 1598 cc and the power figures are maximum 103bhp and 148Nm. However, because it’s an inexpensive SUV, there’s no full time 4WD drive train.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a very fuel efficient vehicle capable of long haul highway rides, and even the city driving mileage figures are excellent on this vehicle. The combined figure of highway and city driving is 21.40 kmpl out of the 1.2 liter VVT engine. Fuel tank capacity on the Baleno is 37 liters.
On the other hand, Renault Duster compensates the mileage figure for its bigger engine displacement, and added power. The 1.6 liter petrol in-line engine can do 13.06 kmpl, a combination of city and highway driving. Fuel tank capacity on the Duster is 50 liters.
Suspension & Steering
Both these vehicles has different offerings in front and rear suspension. Manufacturers of both vehicles have emphasized on the rear suspension more. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has McPherson Strut for the front and rear suspensions, and the rear wheel has coil springs, stabilizer bar and double acting shock absorber as additional equipment.
On the other hand, the Renault Duster has a Torsion Beam in the front suspension and the rear suspension is equipped with a trailing arm with coil spring, and double acting shock absorber.
Both these vehicles are equipped with electronic power steering; height adjustable.
Seating and Boot Space
Both Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Renault Duster is capable of seating 5 people including the driver.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno owners get to carry 339L of cargo in the boot space, while Renault Duster owners get a bigger space – 475L.
