Probably the unbeaten player on the Indian roads in the MPV segment for about a decade, the engineers at Toyota would have been wondering as to why they were asked to fiddle with it. As they say in sports, why change a winning combination? But the answer may lie in the fact that fatigue might have set in. Toyota hasn’t actually done much to it though; it has just upped the luxury aspect of the car to make it a luxury MPV, a one of its kind on the Indian Roads.
It is currently priced between Rs 13.9 L and Rs 21.2 L (Ex-Showroom Price, Mumbai) but the price will vary according to the place.
The new Toyota Innova Crysta has everything that was loved about the Innova plus more. The design looks modern while retaining the ethos of the car. Slightly sharper and angular than before, the changes are more evident from the sides. The rear lamps are now horizontal making look wider. The overall body length and breadth have gone up marginally to make more space while the weight has gone by 170 kgs. Toyota has also added ‘Aero Stabilising Fins’ to improve stability by managing the airflow better.
The principal transformation in the Crysta is the two powerful diesel units replacing the outgoing engines. One is a 2.4 L 148 bhp unit while the other is a 2.8 L 172 bhp engine, which make it the most powerful car in this segment. The 2.4 L engine is only has a 5 speed manual transmission while the 2.8 L unit gives the option of a 6 speed manual or an automatic. There is also a 2.7 L petrol motor that is available in manual and automatic.
You can choose a 7 seater or an 8 seater Crysta. ABS and three airbags are standard across the range. The seats are more comfortable and the top model also gives many seat adjustment options. The dashboard is imaginative in a wave like pattern with the centre console blending in perfectly. There are also a few dashes of wood to give it that elegant look and feel.
