Well, we’re back again with another comparison of cars, the essential road beasts.The theme for this time around is the executive passenger series. Often termed as the ‘D’ segment, this one has seen multiple cars rack up in the chartbusters.
We’ll be adhering to two such executive passenger cars namely, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla Altis.
On my count, then.
Hyundai Elantra makes up for as one of the top sellers in the segment. Having been on the forefront of specs and designs, these are duly preferred by many.
Toyota Corolla Altis remains the legendary vehicle heading into its 11th generation, an unassailable feat. With their sales number on the decline, Toyota brought back the all new facelifted Corolla Altis to get their grips on the premium sedans.

Engine & Transmission
Hyundai Elantra comes in two variants in the ilk of petrol engine and diesel engine. The petrol engine has a displacement of 1797 cc with a power of 147.5 Bhp @6500 Rpm and a torque of 177.5 Nm @4700 Rpm.
The diesel one offers 1582 cc engine with a power of 126.24 Bhp @ 4000 Rpm and 259.87 Nm @1900-2750 Rpm. There’re six gear speeds available within. The transmission remains manual for the diesel variant and automatic for the petrol variant.
Toyota Corolla Altis
Coming to terms with the Toyota Corolla Altis, this one too offers petrol and diesel variants. The petrol one is equipped with a displacement of 1798 cc with a power of 138.08 Bhp @6400 Rpm and a torque of 173 Nm @4000 Rpm.
The diesel one for this one is powered with 1364 cc engine offering a power of 87.19 Bhp @3800 Rpm and a torque of 205 Nm @ 1800-2800 Rpm. Toyota offers 6-speed manual transmission for diesel engine and 7-speed automatic transmission for petrol variant.
The ARAI-certifiedmileage stats read 22.7 km/ltr on diesel variant and 14.5 km/ltr on petrol variant for Hyundai Elantra. It has a fuel tank capacity of 56 ltr.
The ARAI- certified mileage for Toyota Corolla on the diesel variant is 21.43 km/ltr with the petrol variant offering 14.53 km/ltr. The fuel tank capacity for it is 55 ltr.
Suspension & Steering
Hyundai Elantra is equipped with Mc Pherson Strut type with coil spring for front suspension while the rear one is laden with coupled torsion beam axle. The steering remains power assisted on all its variants.
Toyota Corolla Altis offers McPherson Strut front suspension with Torsion beam rear suspension. It also features power assisted steering contour.
Seating and Boot Space
The seating capacity for Hyundai Elantra is 5-people in 2-seating rows. It offers 420 ltr of boot space for storage.
The seating for Toyota Corolla Altis is also marked at 5-people in 2-seating rows. The boot space for this one is 470 ltr.
Amenities & Features
Speaking first on Hyundai Elantra, it comes equipped with airbags, keyless entry, central locking, touchscreen integrated audio system, air condition and more into its variants. There’s a host of safety features like ABS, airbags added to these variants.
Toyota Corolla Altis offers keyless entry, ventilation system, power windows, 2-Din integrated audio system along with safety precautionary like ABS, airbags and more with its variants.
