But before that let’s welcome a new entry into our series, the comparison between Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-Go. Time to let the cars do the talking.
Renault breached the entry-level hatchback segment that had long been ruled by Maruti Suzuki and other companies with this offering of theirs named Kwid. Currently one of the most-loved cars around India, they have hit the right spot for the consumers.
Datsun had quite a presence in the Indian market with their other offerings like Datsun Go and Go+. They too breached the low-priced entry level segment with this new model named Datsun Redi-Go. Datsun Redi-Go shares the platform, specs and engine with Renault Kwid, but there’s still things that set them apart.
Hold on, the specs are coming up.
Renault Kwid is steamed with a 799cc 3-cylinder engine that provides a peak power of 54 PS @5678 RPM along with maximum torque of 72 Nm @4386 RPM. It nears 5-speed manual transmission and has a front wheel driveline quite akin to other entry level hatchbacks.
Datsun Redi-Go has the same engine as of Kwid with799 cc displacement and 3-cylinder engine. The power and torque remain same to the Kwid model, i.e. 54 PS @5678 RPM and 72 Nm @4386 RPM. It also features 5-speed manual transmission with front wheel driveline.
The fuel tank capacity remains same for both the models with 28 ltr of storage while the ARAI-certified mileage remains same at 25.17 km/ltr.
Sharing the same engine and platform does tend to do that.
Suspension & Steering
Here’s what differentiates them, the suspension.
Renault Kwid comes boosted with a front suspension of Mac Pherson strut along with a lowertransverse link. The rear suspension is a twisted beam with coil spring. While the steering is manual based for Kwid.
Datsun Redi-Go is equipped with double pivot arm in thefront suspension and features H-type torsion beam for therear one. It has manual/power steering control depending on the variants and has a minimum turning radius of 4.7 meters.
Seating and Boot Space
The seating capacity remains same for both these mean machines with accommodation for 5 people in a 2-seated row along with 5 doors.
However, there’s quite a difference in the boot space for them.
Renault Kwid has a 300 ltr boot space, the highest in the segment while Datsun Redi-go offers 222 ltr of boot space.
The amenities and features are strictly based on the pricing of the models. The higher variants get more features as of the universal trend.
Renault Kwid has a basic feature list of child safety locks, speed sensor door lock, seat belt warning while it’s higher variant offers airbags, infotainment system and more.
Datsun Redi-Go has a support system for audio, power steering, speakers, air conditioning and more in the higher variants. Regardless on stripped off these features from the lower variant, these are equipped with ABS for safety.
